Daytime talk-show host Kelly Ripa will guest-star opposite her real-life husband, Mark Consuelos, on his CW series “Riverdale.”
In an Instagram post late Tuesday, Ripa, 48, posed in character, wearing a minidress and holding a riding crop as she lounges cross-legged in a tufted-leather armchair. “It’s a family affair . . . Hiram’s mistress,” she wrote, referring to Consuelos’ role as rich, shady businessman Hiram Lodge, father of Veronica Lodge, in the Archie Comics-inspired dark drama.
“23 years of auditioning for a role I was born to play,” she added, referring to her and Consuelos’ marriage. “Coming soon to the @thecwriverdale.”
A network spokeswoman told Newsday in a statement that Ripa will play “Mrs. Mulwray: Confident and tough, she is Hiram Lodge’s alleged mistress. She’s a beautiful, icy femme fatale who gets caught up in a conspiracy that’s much bigger than she initially realized.”
The tentative airdate is Jan. 30. Unlike most of the teen comic books and related media spinoffs, “Riverdale” posits the namesake town of Archie, Jughead and friends as a cauldron of intrigue and murder.
On the series’ flashback episode Wednesday, Ripa and Consuelos’ eldest child, 21-year-old Michael, played the high-school version of Hiram Lodge.
“Tonight he plays the younger and better looking #hiramlodge,” Consuelos, 47, wrote on Instagram Wednesday, adding, “ So proud of you MJC.”
