Lee DeWyze is up first singing "Kiss From a Rose" on "American Idol" as Jamie Foxx mentors them through songs from the movies. There's some dumb bit about his giving them "contestant" or "artist" T-shirts.

Hmmm, Lee has some problems with the high notes at the start. It's not a great performance, even though as always his tone is strong and his passion shows through. But a bit herky-jerky, kind of boring. I still like it, because I like him and the song is easy to listen to, but he's not blowing anyone away.

Randy says pitchy, didn't rock, just OK. Ellen says you could've done more. Kara says you got lost a bit and was out of tune. Simon can't believe he picked this out of all the great choices he had, "verging on karaoke."

A rare misstep for Lee. Oh well, everybody stumbles sometimes.
