Movement on the David Letterman extortion front: The Manhattan DA today has asked a judge to slap down Robert J. Halderman's argument that he was only trying to sell a legit book.

  Called this "self-serving spin."

The AP had a short on this a little while ago, and the best I can tell, the whole procedure sounds relatively pro forma. But...but...maybe just maybe the DA thinks there's a scintilla of a real argument here or it wouldn't have gone to the trouble  of asking Judge Solomon to throw the argument out.

Solomon will render a judgement in the new year, and Haldy's next court appearance is Jan. 19.

(I still gotta believe this case will get settled before it ever gets to court - not that the judge is even close to setting up a trial date.)
