Among the hopefuls you'll see tonight on the new Paula Abdul-hosted competition, "Live to Dance" (8 p.m. on Ch.2) are Long Island's own Red Hot Mamas. a group of tap-dancing women ranging in age from 48 to 81.
The group made the audition rounds, but we won't learn immediately if they made the final cut.
Co-director Louise Rastu of Huntington Station told my Newsday colleague Frank Lovece how they got on the show: "Something came across the e-mail: 'Do you have a group of dancers between [AGES]3 and 103?' And I said, 'Well, our group has close to 103! . Then I got call from Paula Abdul's talent scout asking to talk about the group. We sent pictures, and then the producers wanted a DVD." Eventually the group joined "about 500 others" in the Manhattan auditions at the Jacob Javits Center in mid-October.
