"The pride of Long Island" (in Ryan Seacrest's words), Robbie Rosen is next on "American Idol." He does a slow, powerful version of Sarah McLachlan's "Angel" and he gets the girls squealing right from the start.
It's a totally creative, different take on the song -- just interesting to listen to, and heartfelt, even if it is a bit off-key. On a night of duds it stands out because it feels real and wasn't just a cover. He's got a big, almost shy Sanjaya Malakar-type smile.
"You can sing a ballad like nobody's business. That was beautiful" says Steven Tyler. His big fan, Jennifer Lopez, loves how he told a story. The notes weren't perfect, she says, but she like his interpretation.
Randy Jackson pours cold water on the lovefest by calling it "really pitchy." Says he didn't think he was quite comfortable. Robbie stands up for himself though, and says he had a good time.
