I've seen 'em all; I've suffered through some of 'em, too.
But out of about 100 commercials -- some short, some long, some fast, some slow, some smart, some dumb -- this was the best: Chevy's “Happy Grad,” created by Merrick native and 26-year-old filmmaker Zach Borst, who entered the idea in a contest sponsored by Chevy.
The commercial was shot in Floral Park. The game ad was 30 seconds; the online ad is 60 seconds. There was a world of difference between them, but the shorter execution still worked. though not nearly as well.
Am I a bit biased because the hometown team entered this ad? Absolutely -- but it was still the best. Sure there were plenty that were very good -- the VW ad, the Doritos baby ad, Clint Eastwood's Voice of God ad, and so on. But I'm sticking by Zach.
