Oprah gets free (nine minute) plug on 'Kimmel'

After beginning her career in TV news, Oprah

After beginning her career in TV news, Oprah Winfrey soon became a popular host of several talk shows. Her "At the Movies" show was lengthened, broadcast nationwide and renamed "The Oprah Winfrey Show" in 1986. Since then, Winfrey has co-starred in "The Color Purple," co-written at least five books, launched the "Oprah Winfrey Network" and accumulated enough wealth to be named 139th on Forbes' list of Richest People In America. Depending on your sense of humor and whether sight of Oprah branding someone with a fire poker is your idea of rip-roaring laughs -- not mine, by the way -- then this nine minute schickt-fest with the former daytime queen is either a.) a brilliant satire on OWN's profligacy in mounting/airing just about any show or idea that trots along; or b.) a carefully staged promo designed to get millions of viewers to check out her still under-viewed network. (And Jimmy does tell viewers to PLEASE watch OWN at the end of this thing which aired last night.)

In reality, it's a little bit of both - but a lot more of b. than a.

You be the judge -- as you always are an excellent one. . .
