After that rousing Melbourne welcome, Oprah is very much on my mind today, and - magically - what should appear? This brand spanking new promotion for OWN, which launches Jan. 1. It'll replace Discovery Health.
Here, meanwhile, is something Cablevision subscribers should know: I am told that OWN will not be carried on Cablevision systems - which never carried Discovery Health either. This was confirmed to me by a Cablevision spokesman a week ago. No word on when or if it will be up. But at this point, OWN won't be on Cablevision, which owns Newsday. (It will, however, be on Dish, DirecTV, and FIOS.)
What do we know about OWN? Plenty, and I'll save that for later posts. But here's a basic: Oprah herself will maintain mostly a curatorial role here. She will certainly be on its air and on varioius programs, but a single dedicated all-Oprah-all-the-time series like "oprah"? No, although OWN will carry a behind-the-scenes 25th anniversary series dedicated to the last season of "Oprah."
OK, check out the promo...
