Paul McDonald is up next on "American Idol." He was born in 1984 so he's singing Elton John's"I Guess That's Why They're Call It The Blues." It's a good choice and fits his vocals.
Continues his trend of talking to the audience right as he starts singing, and as always moves randomly and oddly on stage. Almost like he's being soft and controlled on the song. It's not great, even though I like him in general -- there's a sense that he's going through the motions, no connection or emotion at all. Another performance that's more saying the words than singing.
"I know you feel like you were struggling up there," says Jennifer Lopez. Ah, yeah. He's been sick. Randy Jackson says he was really pitchy at times, but liked how he tried to make it his own. Well, true. He sings the same way every time.
Steven Tyler says "you define a cool dude in a loose mood."
