A baby boomer TV icon, a comedic Spanish actress-musician, a girl-group singing star, a “Bachelor” and one of the “Real Housewives” are among the 12 celebrities ABC announced will be competing on the new season of “Dancing With the Stars.”
Appearing on “Good Morning America” Wednesday, “DWTS” co-host Tom Bergeron, flanked by the ABC morning show’s Robin Roberts and Michael Strahan, took particular delight in introducing actor and youth advocate Mr. T, who will be paired with Kym Herjavec. Joking that Mr. T’s catchphrase “I pity the fool” would be this 24th season’s drinking-game term, Bergeron added of the formidable former bouncer, “If anybody storms the stage like last season, he can handle that, too!”
Season 23’s winning ballroom professional, Val Chmerkovskiy, who had danced with Olympic gymnast Laurie Hernandez, is now paired with Fifth Harmony singer Normani Kordei. His brother Maksim will compete with former “Glee” star Heather Morris, and Maksim’s fiancee Peta Murgatroyd with be with Nick Viall of “The Bachelor.”
The athletes this season are bull-riding champion Bonner Bolton, with Sharna Burgess; World Series-winning Chicago Cubs catcher David Ross, with Lindsay Arnold; 1990s Olympic ice-skating icon Nancy Kerrigan, with Artem Chigvintsev; former New York Giants safety Rashad Jennings, with Emma Slater; and Olympic gold-medalist gymnast Simone Biles, with Sasha Farber.
Former “Saturday Night Live” star Chris Kattan is paired with Witney Carson. “The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills” star Erika Jayne will dance with Gleb Savchenko, while longtime Spanish music star and comedian Charo will “cuchi-cuchi” with Keo Motsepe.
“Dancing With the Stars” will premiere with the series’ 400th episode on March 20.
