Kingston Library to mark Cinco de Mayo

The Kingston Library will celebrate Cinco de Mayo with Josefina-1834, An American Girl, on May 5.

The free program, for children ages 7 and up, will begin at 10:30 a.m. at the library, 55 Franklin St. in Kingston. A parent must attend the event with any child under 6.

Based on the American Girl book series, Beverly Barker, who specializes in teaching history and craft through American Girl programs, will use the American Girl books and dolls to stimulate interest in American history and the craft of embroidery.

Students will learn about life in the New Mexico Territory in the early 19th Century, and try their hands at colorful colcha embroidery -- needlework using wool thread which was developed in Spain, and is still popular in Mexico and the American Southwest today.

Attendance is limited and parents are encouraged to attend. To register, Call 845-331-0507 ext. 7.
