Rob Lowe has joined the cast of the CBS medical drama “Code Black.”

The network said Tuesday that the Emmy Award-nominee for “The West Wing” and recent “Parks and Recreation” cast-member, 52, will play Colonel Ethan Willis, a doctor in the U.S. military’s Combat Casualty Care research program, who has been pulled out of a combat hospital in Afghanistan and embedded at Angels Memorial to teach what the military has learned about field medicine.

The character will be introduced in the second season premiere on Sept. 28.
