Shannon Magrane surprisingly in bottom three on 'American Idol'

Jessica Sanchez, Colton Dixon, Shannon Magrane and Deandre Brackensick up next as "American Idol" looks for someone to join Elise Testone in the bottom three. It'll be Brackensick -- another wild card pick who didn't wow us last night.

Mentor Jimmy Iovine defends their much-criticized suggested song for Brackensick Thursday night, "Endless Love" -- basically by saying hey, it was his decision, we were just suggesting an alternative.

He admits it may have been the wrong song, but then adds that Brackensick sung it much better in practice.

Dixon is safe; they tell Brackensick to hang out for a second, tell Sanchez she's safe. And then -- wow, Magrane's in the bottom three, Brackensick is safe.

Pretty surprised by this; Magrane has a strong voice and I thought her version of "One Sweet Day" was one of the best performances Thursday night.

After that, Chris Daughtry is back on "American Idol" with "Outta My Head" -- one of the most natural, creative performers ever to compete on the show.

Intense as always, a totally professional performance.
