Skylar Laine singing "Wind Beneath My Wings" to close "American Idol" '80s song night. Could be something special, guest mentor Gwen Stefani loved it in practice.
Wow, just standing there under a spotlight singing slowly, carefully, powerfully. Her tone is just perfect, with a bit of twang. A bit off-key in parts, but it actually adds to the charm.
Earnest and plain; maybe a bit broad in her gestures -- if Simon Cowell were still on the show he'd make a crack about how it was like an over-the-top performance you'd see on a cruise ship.
But still compelling, and enjoyable to listen to. Judges stand for the second time tonight. She's so cute, is all excited that the judges liked it, clapping her hands in happiness.
"Unbelievable, amazing, be all that you can be," rattles off Randy Jackson.
Jennifer Lopez nails it, says Laine just told America, "Do not count me out." Yeah, I agree -- she's the only one who could break up a Jessica Sanchez/Joshua Ledet finals.
Laine tells Ryan Seacrest that after she was in the bottom three last week, she was just thinking, "Let me just put a pretty dress on, and just sing a pretty ballad."
