Skylar Laine voted off 'American Idol' in a surprise

Hollie Cavanagh or Skylar Laine are about to get kicked off as "American Idol" cuts to its top four on a night when ex-winner Carrie Underwood and Coldplay rocked its stage.

It'll be Cavanagh I think, but neither powerhouse singer deserves to go this week. Phillip Phillips has too much support from the tween girl set. He could go out there and pose silently and they'd still vote for him.

And the person leaving is.. Laine! Hmm, that's a surprise. Just a few weeks ago she was a favorite to make the finals. And Cavanagh is now officially this season's contestant with nine lives -- she's been in the bottom three pretty consistently the last few weeks, but has survived each time.

I'll miss Laine. She had gumption, took risks, was creative and got better over the course of the season (unlike Phillips). And as she reminds us by singing herself out with Miranda Lambert's "Gunpowder and Lead," that she has a huge voice and is a fantastic performer.
