"Star Wars Rebels” — one of cable TV's hottest series — will get a prime-time outing on Oct. 26, at 7 p.m., ABC has announced. And there is s special bonus: James Earl Jones as Darth Vader will appear in a special scene.
Yes, this is unusual for all sorts of reasons: This is, after all, an animated series, which tend to be sequestered on Fox in prime (you may have noticed). This is also a one-time-only event — and the episode in question, “Star Wars Rebels: Spark of Rebellion,” has already aired on Disney XD.
That's the other unusual wrinkle: A Disney Channel show getting a repeat on ABC ...?! This may speak to Disney's overall enthusiasm, and the fact that this series certainly is “cross-generational,” appealing to young kids and adults who really have been wondering what happened in that 20-or-so-year time span between “Star Wars: Episode III — Revenge of the Sith” and “Star Wars: Episode IV — A New Hope,” during which time “Rebels” is set.
Other reasons for viewer/fan enthusiasm? Check out the animation — it is, as we say, a cut above ordinary. Here's the official trailer:
