TCM has set the date for a Shirley Temple tribute - Sunday, March 9, beginning at 4:30 p.m.
"Shirley Temple was a good friend and an extraordinary human being who, after being the most famous person in the world at age 6 and Hollywood's pint-sized Queen at age 7, grew up to be such a lovely, civic-minded citizen, wife and mother, as well as the U.S. Ambassador to two countries," TCM Host Robert Osborne said in a statement. "There will never be another one like her." Temple died yesterday, at age 85.
Meanwhile, just to settle any lingering questions out there....yes, Temple was briefly in a TV series, an anthology that aired over a couple of seasons, on ABC and NBC, from 1958 to 1962: "Shirley Temple's Storybook." Besides Temple, this anthology featuring dramatizations of famous stories, had quite a cast -- Agnes Moorehead, and Pernell Roberts. And thanks to the miracle of the Internet...some of this series has been preserved. Here's the first part of "House of the Seven Gables," which also starred Martin Landau, Robert Culp and...Jonathan Harris, who would achieve later fame on "Lost in Space."
