Here's a bit of news that will strike cold hard fear into the hearts of "The Walking Dead" deadheads everywhere - the show's top producer, Glen Mazzara is leaving. You - or they - will duly note that Mazzara not only stepped into the breach when co-creator Frank Darabont was forced out, but made significant improvements along the way, notably more zombies, more grossness, more bad guys, more of EVERYTHING. So: Can one read between the lines here and say that money may well have been a factor this time too?

Here's Mazzara's statement - first released to Deadline, which ruefully noted that "Dead" also just got a fourth season pickup...

My time as showrunner on The Walking Dead has been an amazing experience, but after I finish season 3, it’s time to move on. I have told the stories I wanted to tell and connected with our fans on a level that I never imagined. It doesn’t get much better than that. Thank you to everyone who has been a part of this journey. – Glen Mazzara
