TV on DVD: First seasons of 'The Knick' and 'Murder'
THE KNICK
Smart, gritty Cinemax series portrays the dawn of "modern" medicine at a 1900 Manhattan hospital where science and social currents intersect. Joining Clive Owen's dissolute surgeon are a black medical whiz, a wealthy woman administrator, a smoking nun, an Irish ambulance wrangler, other rich characters. Equally robust: period city atmosphere, Cliff Martinez's electronic score. Season 2 starts Oct. 16 on Cinemax.
Extras: Three episode commentaries with cast/creators illuminate series themes, medical history, New York City locations, Steven Soderbergh's directing.
List price. $30 DVD/$40 Blu-ray+digital, out Tuesday from HBO.
