Just in time for Halloween, Howland Public Library in Beacon invites children 8-12 to an evening of "Thrills & Chills."

The event will take place Oct. 25 from 6:45 to 7:45 p.m. at the library, 313 Main St., in Beacon.

The program, not suitable for younger children, invites boys and girls 8-12 to spine-chilling tales told by the glow of a jack-o'-lantern. Refreshments described as "revolting" will be served to those with strong stomachs.

It promises to be a night of creepy surprises, the library said in a news release.

No registration is required.
