Graffiti wall helps our vocabulary

Sunrise Drive Elementary School fourth- graders have a project called Graffiti Wall during reading.

What we do is, when we are reading something, we look for words that we don't know. Then, we write them on the graffiti wall, which is a really long piece of paper. We use different colored markers to write with. We have to try to figure out what the words mean by using context clues or word parts that we know to help us.

We must do at least three words and three pictures to illustrate them, or we can write sentence clues instead of pictures.

We have to look up the words in the dictionary when we are done. If the words are wrong, we fix them. If we are done early, we can do even more words and pictures. It is a lot of fun.
