Cops are looking for the driver of a white van who allegedly hit and killed a sanitation worker in Kiryas Joel before driving off Tuesday afternoon.

Anastacio Vasquez of Spring Valley was collecting trash for the village's Sanitation Department on Satmar Drive at noon when he crossed the street and was hit by the car, State Police at Monroe said.

The driver didn't stop, cops said, and investigators said they need the public's help in tracking down a white van with front-end damage from the crash. Cops said they didn't know the van's make or model and didn't have a description of the driver.

Vasquez died on the street a few minutes after the accident.

It wasn't immediately clear how long Vasquez worked for the village. A message was left Tuesday with Kiryas Joel's mayor and village manager.

Witnesses to the crash, or anyone with information on the driver or van, can call State Police at 845-782-8311. All calls will remain confidential.
