Latin Kings members Elmer Confresi, David Rivera sentenced in 2010 anti-gay attack

Confresi will also serve five years of probation for the brutal assault against three men.

THE BRONX - Two of five members of the Latin Kings street gang were sentenced today for a brutal 2010 hate crime in the Bronx.

Elmer Confresi was sentenced to four years in prison and five years of probation for attempted gang assault. David Rivera was sentenced to 13 to 15 years in prison for burglary and robbery.

Prosecutors say the anti-gay attack started when the five gang members suspected that three men trying to join the Latin Kings were gay. Those three men were then beaten, robbed, tortured, and sodomized with a plunger and baseball bat.

In the courtroom, the judge credited Confresi for apologizing to the victims and showing remorse for his actions.

The remaining men are still awaiting sentencing for the same crimes.
