Off the wall: Halloween scares aplenty

Off the Wall carves its pumpkins while roasting and eating the seeds.

MALEVOLENT MARATHONS On the creepy case are AMC, now running its annual FearFest, and ABC Family, Sunday starting 13 Nights of Halloween. Also, IFC screens edgier scares nightly, including Sam Raimi's "Army of Darkness" (Sunday at 8p.m.) and Rob Zombie's "House of 1,000 Corpses" (Tuesday at 9 p.m.). On Thursday nights, Turner Classic Movies showcases ghost films. Titles and times at amctv.com/fearfest abcfamily.com ifc.com/schedule tcm.com/this-month

FILM FRIGHTS Saturday night's TV-movie smackdown: Stephen King's "Big Driver" (8 p.m., Lifetime) with Maria Bello, Olympia Dukakis and Joan Jett vs. Jaime Pressly and Marina Sirtis in the sci-fi schlockfest "Finders Keepers" (9 p.m., Syfy). Sunday on Reelz, compare and contrast both versions of the Long Island-set chiller "The Amityville Horror" (the 2005 remake at 3 p.m., 1979 original at 10:30p.m.). Need more fear features? Streaming options include "Cabin Fever" and "The Midnight Meat Train" at ifc.com/watch-now/movies

HALLOWEEN EPISODES It's silver-anniversary time! The all-new "Treehouse of Horror XXV" unreels on "The Simpsons" (Sunday at 8 p.m., Fox/5). But first, see recent years' "Treehouse" tales (Sunday 4-8 p.m., FXX). Among other Halloween premieres: "Brooklyn Nine-Nine" (Sunday at 8:30 p.m., Fox/5), "Mulaney" (Sunday at 9:30p.m., Fox/5), "Forever" (Tuesday at 10 p.m., ABC/7) and "Last Man Standing" (Friday at 8 p.m., ABC/7). Encore frights include "Roseanne" (Sunday at 10 a.m., WE), "The Middle" (Tuesday at 10:30 p.m., Hallmark), "Melissa & Joey" and "Baby Daddy" (Wednesday at 8 and 8:30 p.m., ABC Family) and "See Dad Run" (Thursday at 8:30 p.m., Nick at Nite). There's also the Halloween horror of "America's Funniest Home Videos" (Sunday at 7 p.m., ABC/7).

TOON IN Back for more adult action! Sidekick Bullhorn and babe Honey Bee aid second-season hero "Black Dynamite" (Saturday night at 10:30, Cartoon). TBS is the new home for season 11 of Seth MacFarlane's "American Dad" (Monday at 9p.m., following a 4-9 p.m. marathon). And yes, it's live action, but hey, it's part of the Adult Swim block -- season 2 of "Newsreaders" (Thursday night at midnight, Cartoon) brings back those TV reporters who know it's better to look good than to feel good or to know what you're doing. Obvious first guest star: David Hasselhoff. Watch at adultswim.com/newsreaders

WHERE IN THE WORLD IS WILLIAM SHATNER? You know we never miss a chance to tout that great American icon. His new series, "The Shatner Project" (Thursday at 10 p.m., DIY), takes him to the final frontier of home remodeling, as Capt. Kirk and his wife, Elizabeth, tackle their century-old abode, originally a hunting lodge, then a '70s-style family spread. Look out, Shat's got a sledgehammer!
