Actress Alicia Silverstone will talk about her brand-new pregnancy guide, “The Kind Mama” (Rodale, $23.99), at 7 p.m. Tuesday at the Book Revue, 313 New York Ave., Huntington. The book launches Tuesday.
The subtitle is quite a mouthful: “A Simple Guide to Supercharged Fertility, a Radiant Pregnancy, a Sweeter Birth, and a Healthier, More Beautiful Beginning.” If the book is able to deliver on all that, it’s sure to be not only a best-seller but a miracle.
Silverstone’s credentials: She’s best known for starring in “Clueless.” She's also written a previous book called "The Kind Diet." She lives in Los Angeles with her husband and their son, Bear Blu.
“I wanted to provide women with a book that was full of valuable information that would help them get pregnant, have an ailment-free pregnancy — free of the conditions we assume are unavoidable (everything from hemorrhoids and swollen ankles to diabetes) — know their birth options, empower them to make choices that are best for them, and help guide them so that they can have the most healthy little baby. And I wanted it all in one, accessible place,” Silverstone said in a news release.
Silverstone uses her own experiences, and talks to obstetricians, midwives, nutritionists, holistic health counselors and others. Topics include getting your home ready for baby, navigating prenatal testing and why moms need a “mama tribe.” It also includes more than 30 recipes and a section for dads.
