He's mouthy and insulting and laughs at his own bad puns, but Annoying Orange, the YouTube viral video sensation, can also be lovable. That's what makes “Annoying Orange,” the new television series, so juicy.

Premiering at 8:30 p.m. Monday on Cartoon Network, “Annoying Orange” is even weirder than the Web series. And that's a good thing. Nothing can make endive, corn-on-the-cob and shallots funnier than Annoying Orange. The higher production values help that along, as well as the odd scenarios Annoying Orange, Apple, Grapefruit and the other animated fruits and vegetables find themselves in.

A few surprises devotees will find -- there's a new character, Nerville, and he's human, and some of the voices will be lent by a delectable array of celebrities, including Jeffrey Tambor, Malcolm McDowell and Billy Dee Williams.

Harrison, my 8-year-old son and a longtime fan, doesn't know who those old folks are, but he knows what he likes about the show. He felt the premiere featured bigger adventures and enjoyed how the characters moved around more on screen.

Not bad for first fruit.
