April is Autism Awareness Month, and among the upcoming events on Long Island are a makeover for four autistic teens on April 6 and a workshop for parents whose children have just been diagnosed on April 12.

Who doesn’t love a makeover? Lord & Taylor in Garden City is having its stylists offer hair, makeup and wardrobe tips to four autistic teen girls — 15-year-old identical twins from Franklin Square, an 18-year-old from Roslyn and a 19-year-old from Bellmore.

Parents who have recently learned their child is autistic can get guidance during a free Parent Workshop for Newly Diagnosed Families from 7 to 8:30 p.m. April 12 at Life’s WORC Family Center for Autism, 1517 Franklin Ave., Garden City. The interactive workshop will focus on an overview of Autism Spectrum Disorder, strategies for positive family dynamics and coping skills. There will be an opportunity for specific questions. To register, call 516-355-9400.
