Former "Real Housewives of New York City" star and talk show host Bethenny Frankel has turned her attention to a new arena — children's books. She'll sign her illustrated picture book, "Cookie Meets Peanut," at 7 p.m. Thursday at the Carle Place Barnes & Noble.

The book, geared to ages 3 to 6, is about Frankel's dog Cookie's reaction when Frankel brought home her newborn daughter, Bryn, and how Cookie finally has become Bryn's "furry sister." Bryn, now 4, is the "Peanut" in the title.

Many people have pets before they have children, treating the animal as their pseudo-child, and Frankel wanted to address the dynamic of what happens when a real child is added to the family. "It's so common for a parent to have a baby, and then your dog becomes a dog," Frankel says. "Your dog gets shafted a little. The dog has feelings about that, too."

Parents, incidentally, will see nods to Frankel's endeavors in the children's book — for instance, the apron Frankel wears in the picture book is dotted with the Skinny Girl logo.
