Babar, the star of the classic children's brand is turning 80 and after a 10-year absence, you can find Babar products in retail stores, just in time for the holiday season.
The lovable elephant character with the signature green suit and yellow crown is heading to Saks Fifth Avenue, Neiman Marcus and Books of Wonder in Manhattan.
Throughout the holiday season at Saks, a dedicated Babar boutique will be featured in the children's department with a range of exclusive, new products. In addition, Babar will get a starring role in the retailer's famous holiday windows, including a life-size Babar plush toy sold at Saks in Manhattan. Merchandise will be sold in all Saks stores.
If you're heading to Manhattan, Books of Wonder (18 W. 18th St.) will be transformed into “Babar Central” to celebrate his birthday. There will be a special store window dedicated to Babar, a gallery full of exclusive memorabilia and art, including a public unveiling of the personal memoirs of Babar author and illustrator Laurent de Brunhoff, a Babar story time every Saturday through the end of December featuring celebrity guest readers and an auction of rare Babar artwork with proceeds to benefit a national children's literacy charity.
Also, in honor of Babar's birthday, new products are set to launch at specialty toy and book stores ranging from board books and games to puzzles, plush toys and pajamas.
