The pressure of writing a memorable college application essay may be eased with the help of the newly revised "Conquering the College Admissions Essay in 10 Steps" (Ten Speed Press, $11.99) by college essay coach Alan Gelb. The book helps students identify an engaging topic and use creative writing techniques to execute the personal statement.
Joie Jager-Hyman, who worked in admissions for Dartmouth College and founded the consulting company College Prep 360, has written "B+ Grades, A+ College Application: How to Present Your Strongest Self, Write a Standout Admissions Essay, and Get Into the Perfect School for You -- Even With Less-Than-Perfect Grades" (Ten Speed Press, $14.99).
Coming in December: "Acing the App: Applying to American Universities and Colleges for Asian Parents and Students" by Krystal Ann Flores (World Scientific Education, $24). It can be pre-ordered on amazon.com. The author was accepted to 18 universities and is a graduate of Yale. She spent several years in China working with students on college applications, giving her a combination of Western and Asian knowledge.
