“Descendants” fans rejoice. Disney recently announced that the movie franchise’s third installment, “Descendants 3,” will debut summer 2019.
Dove Cameron, who plays Mal, the daughter of Maleficent, made the announcement with a teaser trailer that aired last weekend during the premiere of “Zombies” on the Disney Channel.
The film, which follows the lives of the teenage sons and daughters of Disney’s most infamous villains, will begin production this summer in Vancouver, Canada, according to a news release. Kenny Ortega will return as director, executive producer and choreographer of the franchise’s “trequel.”
The announcement revealed that a new villain, Mal’s dad, will be joining the cast, and confirmed the return of Sofia Carson (Evie, the Evil Queen’s daughter), Booboo Stewart (Jay, Jafar’s son), Mitchell Hope (King Ben, Belle and the Beast’s son), China Anne McClain (Uma, Ursula’s daughter) and Cameron Boyce (Carlos, Cruella De Vil’s son).
The first two installments of “Descendants” reached millions of fans. The news release stated “Descendants 2” had more than 71.5 million viewers in 159 countries and 32 languages. The “Descendants 2” soundtrack was No. 1 on iTunes and in the Top 10 on the Billboard 200. In 2017, “Descendants” Halloween costumes were No. 1 at Party City.
