One of Jasmine Bezugly's favorite parts of “Disney on Ice: Mickey’s Search Party,” currently at NYCB Live's Nassau Coliseum, happens before each performance even begins.
“I’m in the audience before the show starts,” says Bezugly, 21, an ensemble skater from Saskatchewan, Canada. She and the other pirates mingle with audience members, searching for Tinkerbell’s wand. “It kinds of ties into what our storyline is once the show starts,” she says.
During the performance, pirates try to capture Tinkerbell and steal her magic. “It’s up to Mickey and his gang to bring back the magic and free Tinkerbell,” Bezugly says.
This version of Disney on Ice incorporates some circus-style numbers. “My favorite number is our ‘Coco’ segment. There’s so many amazing things happening in that number,” Bezugly says. The 2017 "Coco" animated movie featuring a 12-year-old boy named Miguel was inspired by Mexico’s Day of the Dead holiday. There are skeletons and the costumes, include colorful skirts and hats, and there are sway poles on the ice. “You see these acrobats swaying on the poles, back and forth,” she says.
The show runs through Nov. 25 at the Coliseum, 1255 Hempstead Tpke., Uniondale. Tickets start at $25 and are available at 800-745-3000 or ticketmaster.com.
