“Disney’s Newsies: The Broadway Musical!” is coming to several Long Island cinemas for special showings at 12:55 p.m. Feb. 18 and 7 p.m. Feb. 22.
The film features the original Broadway cast. Captured live at the Hollywood Pantages Theatre earlier this year, the event features Jeremy Jordan, who currently stars in the television series “Supergirl,” reprising the role he created as newsie Jack Kelly. Set in New York City at the turn of the century, “Newsies” is the tale of a newsboy and leader of a band of teenaged “newsies,” who dreams of a better life. But when publishing titans Joseph Pulitzer and William Randolph Hearst raise distribution prices at the newsboys’ expense, the newsies strike for what’s right.
Fathom Events is partnering with Disney Theatrical Productions to bring the stage show to the big screen, including special behind-the-scenes footage and interviews with the cast and creators.
Since opening on Broadway in 2011, “Newsies” has played 1,711 performances between Broadway and the North American tour, to more than 2.5 million audience members in 65 cities across the country.
Tickets are on sale at FathomEvents.com or at participating theater box offices; prices vary per theater. Participating theaters include Farmingdale 10, 20 Michael Ave., Farmingdale; Deer Park 16 & IMAX 455 Commack Rd., Deer Park; and Broadway Multiplex 12 955 Broadway Mall, Hicksville.
