One of my Newsday colleagues and fellow moms saw this idea on Pinterest, tested it out with her two boys, ages 2 and 5, and wanted to share this super-convenient way of letting the kids play in the snow without leaving the house.
She brought the snow inside! She filled up the bathtub with snow from her yard, and Jake (left in photo) and Zack donned their gloves and had a great time. “They loved it and played for hours,” says Theresa Sandler of Levittown, who is an assistant photo editor at Newsday. “I totally recommend it.” It was especially great for Sandler because she is pregnant with her third boy, due next week, so going out into the snow isn’t high up on her wish list right now.
“I just wanted to pass this little trick on to other moms with little ones who are getting cabin fever,” Sandler says. “I’m sure other moms have been dealing with the same issue, so us moms have got to help each other out to save our sanity.”
The snow lasted so long that even after two hours, Sandler still had to spray the remaining snow with hot water to melt it down the drain. Cleanup was easy; she’d thrown a few towels on the floor so the kids wouldn’t slip while playing, and when they were done, she just tossed the towels in the wash.
