Children love watching their favorite characters come to life on stage, and there's no shortage of theatrical events on Long Island. Since many of the shows require some forethought, here's a sampling of family-friendly shows throughout June to help you plan a fun-filled day.
"Rapunzel" at Take-One Performing Arts Academy (1021 Portion Rd., Farmingville) on Saturdays in June at 1 p.m. and Sunday, June 15 and 22 at 1 p.m. A re-enactment of the classic fairy tale from the Brothers Grimm. Price: $10.
"Seussical Jr." at the Smithtown Center for Performing Arts (2 E. Main St., Smithtown) on Sunday, June 1 at 11 a.m., Saturday, June 7 at 2 p.m. and Sunday, June 8 at 11 a.m. Families can watch a youth performance based on the works of Dr. Seuss. Price: $15.
"Alexander and the Terrible, Horrible, No Good, Very Bad Day" at John W. Engeman Theater (250 Main St., Northport) on Saturdays at 11 a.m. and Sundays at 10:30 a.m. through July 13. This funny musical follows Alexander during his very bad day: He wakes up with gum in his hair, his best friend abandons him on the playground and his mom forgets to pack dessert in his lunchbox. Price: $15.
"Tilly the Trickster" at CM Performing Arts Center (931 Montauk Hwy., Oakdale) on Saturday, June 7 and 14 at 2 p.m. Adapted from the book by Molly Shannon, this children's musical is about a mischievous girl who loves nothing more that causing trouble. Price: $12.
"Kidz Bop Live" at The Space at Westbury (250 Post Ave., Westbury) on Saturday, June 28 at 5 p.m. Kidz Bop, the popular music brand for children ages 5-12, will perform live; doors open at 4 p.m. Price: $20 advance, $25 day of show.
"Peter Pan The Musical" at Smithtown Center for the Performing Arts (2 E. Main St., Smithtown) on Saturday, June 28 at 2 p.m. and Sunday, June 29 at 3 p.m. Follow a mischievous boy who can fly and spends his never-ending childhood adventuring on the small island of Neverland. Price: $30 adults, $20 children.
