Calling all moms: Whether you're a runner or a walker, you may want to sign up for the Fit and Healthy Mamas 5K at Eisenhower Park in East Meadow on Saturday.
The third annual event celebrates and honors moms for all they do and sets out to serve as a reminder to make their health a priority. Runners, walkers and moms with strollers are welcome to participate. While this is a women-only race, you don't have to be a mom to join.
There will also be free activities to keep kids busy while moms are participating in the race. This year, there will be a kids' yoga demonstration class, a dance fitness class, face painting, an arts and crafts table (make a sign for Mom!) and more. There will also be food, drinks, a DJ, an awards ceremony, raffles and beauty giveaways. All pre-registrants will receive a T-shirt and a bag of goodies from sponsors -- including Athleta, Luna Bar, Bitsy's Brainfood, and more.
A portion of the proceeds from the event ($30 to register) will go to Girls on the Run of Nassau County and Every Mother Counts.
The race begins at 8:30 a.m. in Field 2 (7 a.m. for race-day registration). The awards ceremony and post-race events will be held from 8:30 a.m. until noon. For more information, visit fitandhealthyny.com/5k-run.
