Boater's Maritime Festival at Harborfront Park (101-A East Broadway Village Center, Port Jefferson) on Saturday, May 4 and Sunday, May 5 from 11 a.m.-6 p.m. Kids and parents alike will enjoy a boat show with water activities, boat building, a touch tank, food, entertainment and pirates.
Preview Day at Hofstra University Student Center (Hempstead Turnpike, Hempstead) on Saturday, May 4 from 9 a.m.-noon. High school sophomores can meet students, learn about the college, receive help on their search and learn to build a college list.
Mayfair Family Fun Day at Play Groups School (52 Old Post Rd., East Setauket) on Saturday, May 4 from 10 a.m.-3 p.m. Kids ages 6 and younger can enjoy pony rides, arts and crafts, face painting and more.
The Golden Global Drum at Hofstra University Museum: Emily Lowe Gallery (Hempstead Turnpike, Hempstead) on Saturday, May 4 at 11 a.m. An interactive performance of music around the world that links drumming to different cultures through story and song. Price: $5 family of 4, $1 per additional attendee.
Peconic Family Fun Day at Children's Museum of the East End (376 Bridgehampton / Sag Harbor Tpke., Bridgehampton) on Saturday, May 4 from 10 a.m.-noon. Kids and adults alike can check out exhibit, workshops, activities and two easy-paced nature walks where you can check out birds, butterflies, frogs, turtles and more.
Family Nature: Who Lives in the Ground at Bailey Arboretum (194 Bayville Road and Feeks Lane, Lattingtown) on Sunday, May 5 at 2 p.m. Families can search for amphibians and other creatures in the forest.
Live Model Figure Drawing and Children's Art Activity at Heckscher Museum of Art (2 Prime Ave., Huntington) on Sunday, May 5 from noon-4 p.m. As part of the Tulip Festival, children are invited to design their own "art car" on the museum terrace.
Storytime at Downs Farm Preserve (County Route 25, Cutchogue) on Friday, May 10 at 10 a.m.. Children ages 2-5 can create a seasonal craft and listen to a nature-themed story; reservations are required.
Seaside Stories and Crafts at Fire Island National Seashore Visitor's Center (Watch Hill, Fire Island) on Saturday, May 18 at noon. Children ages 5-7 can listen to stories about horseshoe crabs and create a horseshoe crab craft.
Author Appearance and Book Signing: Lisa A. Dabrowski at Safari Adventure (1074 Pulaski St., Riverhead) on Sunday, May 19 from noon-3 p.m. East end author Lisa A. Dabrowski, author of "Mr. Woolly and Friends in How the Barn Was Painted Purple," will be signing copies of her new book. Copies available for purchase; if you want to play there will be a fee, but the event is free.
Extreme Rec Night at Southampton Town Recreation Center (1370A Majors Path, Southampton) on Friday, May 3 from 7:30-10 p.m. Children in grades 6-12 are invivde to participate in relay races, soccer, basketball, kickball, inflatable joust, a bungee run and more.
