It appears Gisele Bundchen, the supermodel fellow moms love to hate, is at it again. A photo of the Brazilian beauty riding in an ATV with her 1-year-old daughter Vivian -- sans helmet -- in Costa Rica last weekend was posted by TMZ over the weekend.
A day after the photo went viral, Bundchen's representative told ABC News: "Gisele was on a private beach driving very, very slowly."
As a mother of two small children, I cringed looking at this photo, which you can see on TMZ.com. Other mom bloggers echoed my feelings, with Adriana Velez of TheStir.com summing it up best in an interview with ABC News: "My palms started sweating because that just looks terrifyingly unsafe."
This isn't the first time the supermodel was a target of parenting controversy. Bundchen, wife of NFL star Tom Brady, told Harper's Bazaar UK in 2010 that "there should be a worldwide law that mothers should breast-feed their babies for six months."
Last March, Bundchen and Brady were spotted on an ATV with Vivian, who at 3 months old wasn't sporting a helmet then, either. A few months later, a photo of 7-month-old Vivian with pierced ears sparked debate online. More recently, Bundchen shared a photo of herself on Instagram nursing her daughter while getting her hair styled and included the caption: "What would I do without this beauty squad after the 15 hours flying and only three hours of sleep #multitasking #gettingready."
Many moms face judgment and criticism, which is unfortunate. I make decisions based on what I feel is right for my children. Although I don't always agree with the hype against Bundchen's parenting style, I think her latest move was irresponsible, and I'd feel that way about any parent who puts a baby on an ATV without a helmet.
