Looking to give back this summer? The Long Island Coalition for the Homeless is in need of bathing suits and towels for kids ages 5 to 18, either new or gently used.

Also, on Aug. 26, the organization will be hosting its annual Backpack Pirates event. This program is a summer camp event for homeless and at-risk youth on Long Island. After a full day of activities at a beachfront camp in Riverhead, each child receives a backpack filled with new school supplies.

Last year, the Long Island Coalition for the Homeless distributed more than 400 backpacks to children at the event and, additionally, more than 600 backpacks to other children in need.

Items can be dropped off at the Long Island Coalition for the Homeless offices (38 Old Country Rd., Garden City) through Aug. 22. For more information, call 516-742-7770 or visit addressthehomeless.org.
