More than 60 string-instrument students from across Long Island will play under renowned conductor Itzhak Perlman during a free event open to the public at 5:30 p.m. July 28 at Southold High School, 420 Oaklawn Ave.

The students, ages 8 to 18, play violin, viola, cello and double bass and have been rehearsing throughout the month of July under the direction of East End Arts School faculty member Jeannie Woelker in preparation for the 30-minute, rehearsal-style event with Perlman.

The students will play Beethoven’s “Ode to Joy.” The event will be held in the auditorium. For more information, call 631-369-2171.
