Actress and entrepreneur, Jessica Alba, knows a thing or two about being busy.
The 31-year-old star of movies such as "Sin City," "Honey" and "Fantastic Four" has two young daughters, Honor, 4 and Haven, 1, with producer husband Cash Warren.
She's also the founder of The Honest Company, a parent-friendly service that delivers eco-friendly, affordable diapers, wipes and other essentials directly to your doorstep.
In May of this year, Alba was one of the honorees of the annual Outstanding Mother of the Year Awards at the Pierre Hotel in Manhattan and I had the chance to chat with her about motherhood, The Honest Company and balancing it all.
Q. How do you balance your work and family?
"Cut yourself some slack. You're not going to able to do everything and you can't be every where all the time to everyone. You have to let go of perfection and grasp the idea that doing the best you can is really the best for everyone. And your happiness will ultimately make you the best mother."
Q. What have you learned since you've become a mom?
"I've learned how to love deeper than I could ever imagine and it's completely one-sided. It's like my children will never understand the love I have for them. And neither should they. My mother feels the same way I'm sure. I didn't really understand that until I had kids what that really was all about."
Q. Why did you decide to launch The Honest Company?
"My inspiration was purely out of necessity. When I was putting together my home for my new baby four years ago, I just wanted a company that I could trust that was really truly honest in the ingredients that they used and I wanted them to be high-performance. No one can deal with an explosion in the middle of the day. Changing a kid when there's no changing table anywhere. I wanted high-performance, high-quality products that were affordable and beautiful. And completely safe and nontoxic,so I was inspired to create it."
