Karts Indoor Raceway in Ronkonkoma is changing its name to Karts Indoor Raceway Family Fun Center and adding four new indoor amusement rides for kids that should be up and running in mid- to late February.
“We’ve always been predominantly adults. There wasn’t enough activity to hold the family,” says owner Lenny Elkins. That’s changing as he adds bumper cars, a Frog Hopper ride, the Mirror Maze and the Whip ride. The Frog Hopper is a six-person bench that takes riders up to the ceiling and bounces up and down; the Whip is a ride that speeds riders around a curve, Elkins says.
To fit the rides in the center, Elkins says the raceway track has been re-configured. The center will also be bringing back its junior track cars for kids 40 to 52 inches tall. It will add a prize redemption center where kids can exchange tickets earned at arcade video games for prizes.
The rides are likely to be part of a pay-one-price system, Elkins says. Prices have yet to be determined. Karts is at 701 Union Pkwy., Ronkonkoma. For more information, call 631-737-5278 or visit karts1.com.
