Kidsday interviews 'Addams Family's' Adam Riegler

Recently, we saw “The Addams Family” a Broadway musical at the Lunt-Fontanne Theatre.

The show was outstandingly funny with an amazing cast that worked well together. Nathan Lane and Bebe Neuwirth were both very hysterical. Their characters kept us laughing the whole time. The play was about the family’s daughter, Wednesday (played by Krysta Rodriguez), who wanted to get married. Her parents, Gomez and Morticia (Lane and Neuwirth), were not happy about her new boyfriend, and especially not excited to host dinner for Wednesday’s “normal” boyfriend and his family. The play and especially the cast were brilliant! It is a definite must-see!

After the show, we interviewed Adam Riegler, who plays Pugsley Addams. Adam has been on Broadway before; he played Young Shrek in “Shrek the Musical.” Adam said he enjoys playing Pugsley more. Adam did an amazing job with his solo, “What If?”

We asked him if any famous people came backstage to meet the cast after the show. He said, “A couple people have come backstage. The Jonas Brothers were the latest ones who came backstage. John Astin came to the first show. He was the original Gomez on the TV show. Angela Lansbury came. Rosie O’Donnell; I wasn’t there for her. Alfred Molina. A lot of people have come.”

We asked him how he handles acting and school. Adam said, “I do home schooling. So I do school during the day, and I do the shows at night. It kind of works out well. I have gone to private school while I’ve done a show . . . and that’s harder. But right now, I’m doing home school.

He was so nice and is a very enthusiastic actor whom we hope to see again and in more shows. We loved “The Addams Family” so much because even though they have been around for generations, they haven’t changed one bit. Our parents knew and loved “The Addams Family,” and so do we! The story is definitely relatable to many families, and we all end up rooting for Wednesday. We hope you do, too.
