Crikey! Our hearts were racing because we were lucky enough to interview Terri, Robert and Bindi Irwin on the blue carpet for their new Animal Planet show, “Crikey! It’s the Irwins,” at the Altman Building in Manhattan last week. They were super welcoming to all of us, and we were able to talk to them about their show and their interest in animals.     We were excited to learn that if they could add any new species to their zoo it would be an aye-aye, which is a lemur that is native to Madagascar.

After we interviewed them we sat down and saw some video clips about their new show. The clips were about when Robert and Bindi were young and imagined what it would be like growing up in a zoo being surrounded by animals. We also saw some old clips that included Bindi and Robert’s late dad, Steve, talking about how he wants his children to grow up to protect animals. This was an emotional clip that caused some people to tear up.

We learned that Bindi’s favorite animal in the whole world is an echidna because they are so cute. If you have never seen them, they are spiny egg-laying mammals. Her dad introduced an orphaned baby echidna to her when she was about 3, and she has loved them ever since. During the presentation a furry creature was brought out to the stage — it was a two-toed sloth. We also were able to see an owl, albino python, a baby croc and even a joey.

After our interview we were super pumped to be invited to the after party. It was an amazing experience. When the food came out it was all awesome. Then when we thought the night couldn’t get any better we were each given a gift bag that included an Animal Planet journal, Robert’s photography calendar, a Crikey magazine, and even a cute stuffed fluffy koala bear. We even got autographs. It was amazing experience that we will never forget.

We think all kids should definitely check out the new show “Crikey! It’s the Irwins," premiering Sunday on Animal Planet at 8 p.m.
