We had an amazing opportunity to go to Barclays Center in Brooklyn, and watch a Nets game on Saturday. We had a very busy evening there because we had to interview Nets small forward, Rondae Hollis-Jefferson, Vice President of Global Merchandising at Brooklyn Sports & Entertainment Tyrel Kirkham and also Dallas Mavericks center Dirk Nowitzki.

We tried on some clothes from the clothing line, too. We also went down on the court and watched the players shoot around. We had an incredible time doing these activities and we really wanted to share them with you.

When we interviewed Rondae, we asked him a few questions. One of the questions we asked him was how he was able to come back and be such a great player after seriously injuring his ankle last season. Rondae said he was sad that he was missing games, but he trained really hard so he could get back out on the court again. He did come back and since then has almost doubled his scoring and rebounding from the previous season.

We were curious if he had a favorite court to play on and if he played better at Barclays Center or on the road. Rondae said that he tries his hardest every game, so it doesn’t matter home or away.

Rondae gets to the arena a few hours before game time and we wanted to know if he had any rituals that he likes to go through before each game. He said, “I love to listen to music before games and when I am practicing.” We later saw him doing this in warmups. He had his headphones on and even pointed at them and smiled when he saw us watching him. Finally we asked him how he accomplished averaging two times as many points as he did last season. He answered, “I just trained hard and practiced over the off-season as hard as I could!”

One of the reasons we were able to meet Rondae is because he is one of the faces for the new clothing line Brooklyn Cool (BKCL). He said he thinks the clothes are comfortable and relaxing and you can do pretty much anything in them from going to the gym or just hanging out. He added, “I showed up to a meeting wearing the hoodie, and I felt comfortable in it and it is good to dress up or dress down.”

When we were sitting courtside while the Nets and Dallas Mavericks were warming up for the game, we had the chance to meet Mavs star Dirk Nowitzki for a few minutes. He talked to us about his role on the team. He told us that since he is a little older and a little slower he doesn’t play power forward as much anymore, he is a center. He also told us that playing in the NBA had been a goal of his since the age of 12 or 13 and that he had so many favorite players back then including Scottie Pippen and Michael Jordan. We asked him how he wants fans and teammates to remember him, and he told us that he wants to be remembered as a regular guy who loves to play basketball and loves to compete and that he loves having fun with all his teammates. He added that it was something he sure is going to miss after his career is over.

After meeting Rondae and being on the court, we went up to the Brooklyn Cool suite at Barclays Center and met Tyrel Kirkham. We asked him about the personality of the new design of the BKCL (netsstore.com/BKCL) clothing line, and Tyrel told us “It is freedom and comfort and the best part is that you can wear it anywhere you want.” He explained further that it is a combination of both being athletic or just comfortable clothing because you can wear it while going out with your friends, eating dinner, or just playing sports. He told us that the Swag Shop at Barclays Center is always crowded before the games and at halftime. We agreed because we visited the store at halftime and it was packed. From shirts to hoodies and sweatshirts, they have so much great stuff to choose from for little kids to adults. Tyrel added that the Nets are also partnering with Nike and Champs. We especially liked the hoodies that were designed by two local designers: Extra Butter and Antler + Woods.

Going to Barclays Center and meeting Rondae, Dirk and Tyrel was really exciting. As a bonus, we met the Brooklynettes Dancers on the court and the Brooklyn Nets Kids dancers who visited the suite. Most of all, we found out a lot about the new clothing line and were so happy to try them on and really find out how very stylish, contemporary, and comfortable they are. We loved the clothes and we think they are awesome. We had a lot of fun watching the game too. To top off our night, the Nets won the game and Rondae was incredible by leading his team in scoring with 23 points and a 114-106 win over Dallas. Our trip to Barclays Center was an incredible experience that we will never forget.
