Are you a couch potato? Are you not into sports like basketball or soccer? Then a CrossFit gym might be the perfect place for you to go. You will work hard, get stronger and get in shape. A kid named David was only able to deadlift (lift a heavy bar while doing a squat with a straight back) 70 pounds. Five months later, he can now lift 115 pounds. David, who goes to the CrossFit gym, said he believes “No pain, No gain.”

What is CrossFit? Audrey Brown, who runs CrossFit Merrick, describes her CrossFit classes as “a fitness program which combines bodyweight exercises, running and other coordinated activities to increase flexibility, strength and self-confidence.” The kids class, for ages 5 to 10, uses fitness games to keep the kids focused while getting them to move. The teen class, for ages 11 to 17, challenges the athletes by focusing on form and weights. Brown says, “People of all fitness levels are encouraged to try it.”

So stop being a couch potato and get moving. See if you can find a CrossFit program near you.
