Dance is a great way to make friends and have fun. For example, kids who are shy or do not like to stand out may not think dance is for them, but it sure is worth a try.
When I started dance classes, I was 4 years old. I did not know the girls in my class very well, but after only a few classes, I was friends with all of them. Although some girls would come and go, I danced with these girls for four years. I continued dance and my love for it grew.
I tried all different dance styles and even joined a dance team and competed one year. Dance competition taught me a lot about dance. Some things were tricks and others were just about having fun while performing. This trick is important when performing in front of judges, considering every moment counts. If you mess up, it determines your score. The trick: If you mess up, make the audience and judges think it was part of the dance. It’s that simple.
Dance is a great activity for all ages. It is also a great way to make friends, exercise and have fun. It has made me more flexible for kickline, which I do at my middle school, and overall has just given me more confidence. Just remember: Always be yourself on stage, and you are the one telling the story.
