We are sitting on a Long Island Rail Road train, on our way to Manhattan to interview a celebrity. Our star is Darci Lynne Farmer, a 14-year-old ventriloquist and singer. She’s famous because she won “America’s Got Talent” last year! She is also the youngest contestant ever to win.
First we had to go on a train then get on the subway, and then walk. Next was the nerve-racking part — interviewing her. We asked a lot of questions.
We started by asking her if she did anything other than ventriloquism. She told us she likes to run track, but she doesn't really have any time now. When she does, she likes to sing without her puppets.
We also asked her when she started as a ventriloquist. She said she started when she was 10. That’s how old we are now!
We were curious about what she wanted to be when she got older and she said she wants to achieve other goals like singing regularly without her puppets and acting in a show or movie. But she also said she is not going to quit ventriloquism for a while.
What is her favorite puppet? She said Petunia, but not to tell her other puppet, Oscar. What's her favorite song to sing with her puppets? "Summertime," with Petunia, she said.
Who writes her jokes? “Not always me, but when I do, they usually come to me at random times, like when I am brushing my teeth or during homework, and I am like, 'Oh, that's a good joke.'"
One of the hard questions we asked was if she were to be in a funny movie, which comedic star would she want to act with? Darci replied Kevin Hart or Tina Fey!
Ever since she won “America’s Got Talent,” a lot of people recognize her. Do people stop her in public to say hello? She said, “All the time.”
Who was her favorite judge on the show? She said Simon Cowell.
Darci told us she has three brothers and she still has a regular bedtime, but if she can, she likes to stay up late. She doesn’t play video games like Fortnite, but she does like to watch a lot of Netflix shows.
We noticed in one of her pictures she was wearing a Yankees baseball cap. We were curious if she was a baseball fan and her mom told us that she doesn’t follow baseball. She's more of a football fan. They bought the hat so she could blend in she would be harder to recognize.
Meeting Darci was so much fun and she made our visit even better by taking out Petunia and having Petunia say hello to us too!
