We met singer and actress Demi Lovato when she was in Manhattan recently.

Who is your favorite co-star to work with?

One of my really, really, really close friends — her name is Tiffany Thornton — we did a show called “Sonny With a Chance” together. And she is probably my favorite co-star that I ever worked with.

Do you have any advice for young actresses, actors and singers?

My advice would be to follow your dreams. So, if that’s something that you want to do when you get older, work hard, practice. Practice doesn’t make perfect, but it can get you pretty close, so keep practicing as much as you can.

Demi, what is your favorite song to sing in the shower?

I actually sing the national anthem in the shower because it’s the perfect place to practice it. And it’s not the type of song that you sing all the time, but it’s got great acoustics. And it’s good practice.

What was your favorite movie to star in?

I’ve only done a few movies, but my favorite one, I think, was “Camp Rock 2.”

At the 2017 Nickelodeon Kids’ Choice Awards, were you expecting to get slimed?

I don’t know if I can answer that question, to be honest. I knew there was a possibility, and so I had to make sure that I stood very still, just in case. And then I got slimed, and it was so difficult to wash off. I’m glad I didn’t turn green.

Demi, what do your tattoos mean to you?

Um, what tattoos mean to me, they are — it’s kind of like art for your body. And a lot of my tattoos have meanings, deep meanings, to them. And some of them I just wanted because I felt they were cute, so I have a bunch of them. And I think I’m done for a while, but who knows, we’ll see.

Where do you see yourself in 10 or more years?

In 10 or more years I would love to have a family. I think that would be really cool. Right now I have a dog and he’s my whole world. His name is Batman, actually. And yeah, I would love to have a family.

Do you have a favorite superhero?

Mine’s Batman because he overcame his biggest fear and he doesn’t have this crazy superpower. You know, he’s just a normal guy who overcame his fear and wants to do good in the world.

What’s your hobby?

I do jiujitsu.

What would you want to be doing as a career, if you weren’t a singer and actor?

If I wasn’t a singer or an actress, I think . . . I would probably end up being a songwriter. But I also would love to be a detective. I know, I’m nerdy.
