Actress Aimee Carrero is the voice of the main character in the new animated Disney show called “Elena of Avalor.” She is Disney’s first Latina princess! We were lucky enough to get to meet her and ask her a few questions. We went into Manhattan to the ABC offices to interview her. We didn’t know what to expect, but she was so nice and funny when we met her.

We asked her how does it feel to be Disney’s first Latina Princess? Aimee said, “It feels really good. It’s amazing. I grew up going to Disney World because I’m from Miami and I have an uncle who’s an Imagineer at the Orlando park, so it was really amazing because I’ve been going for a long time and to think that Elena is going to be walking around the park is a really exciting idea.”

We asked her to describe her character Elena in her own words. She said, “Elena is 16 and she’s just very self-assured and she’s bold and she’s courageous and she’s very independent. She’s a little strong-willed, but most of all she’s very compassionate and she loves her family and she just kind of wants to do a really good job. “

That made us wonder if Aimee was anything like Elena. Aimee said, “I like to think so. I try to be. I try to be all those things I just talked about, but what I think we have in common is I’ve never done a voice-over before and she’s never been a princess before. So it’s kind of the same thing. I think she’s a little intimidated by the job and she’s new at the job and so am I.”

Besides this show, Aimee is one of the stars on “Young & Hungry” She plays Sofia Rodriguez. We asked her what that was like. Aimee said, “I love it. It’s really fun. My favorite thing about it is we get to shoot in front of a live audience. So it’s actually the closest thing you get to a theater experience, and what I find really cool — and maybe you guys will, too — is that when there’s a joke that people don’t laugh at, they don’t think it’s funny necessarily, which happens sometimes, the writers all get together and write a new joke and then give it to you right then and there, and you have to perform it on the next take. It’s live and it’s really exciting.”

Aimee was really polite and answered our questions very thoroughly. One of the questions we asked her was, “What is the one thing that she couldn’t live without?” Her answer was that she couldn’t live without her phone. She says that everyone can’t live without their phones now! Overall, we think that this interview was very successful, and it was a lot of fun to meet Aimee.

You can see her in her new animated series on Fridays starting July 22 on the Disney Channel.
